Quarter After Eight: A Journal of Prose and Commentary

Submissions

We now have online submissions!

Due to the overwhelming volume of submissions for volume 13, we will only be accepting submissions online for the next reading period (vol. 14). (One exception: prose contest submissions may be sent by mail since the check must also be mailed.) Also, please note new dates for our reading period, Oct. 15-April 15.

You may find our online submission service at quarteraftereight.org/subtracker/. Please email editor@quarteraftereight.org with any difficulties.

QAE Mission and Aesthetic

Quarter After Eight is an annual journal dedicated to exploring the possibilities of the prose form across distinctions of genre. Confronting both the margins and middle, QAE believes that much of today’s most significant writing is dedicated to blurring the traditional lines of prose and verse. QAE is committed to publishing fiction, prose-poetry, sudden-fiction, creative and critical nonfiction, interviews, reviews, letters, memoirs, translations, dramas, and less defined forms of prose from new and established writers.

Our primary criterion in evaluating a submission is its innovation of approach to the prose form. We do not publish traditional lined poetry, but we welcome work that challenges the boundary of prose and poetry. We do accept simultaneous submissions, but please indicate that you are submitting elsewhere in the "comments" field of the submission manager.
